In today’s world being academically weak is a curse?

This is a very often question which strikes in those students who are academically weak. In today’s world of intellectuals and with a Tiff competition among each other weak students somewhere has lost an opportunity to get ahead. They are just dominated by intelligent sections of the society If we analysis the ‘cons’ of being an academically weak ten its really a curse. An average student of 40%-45% stands nowhere according to the education policies of various universities. For ex if we take our own Delhi University to get into the good college a student should at least get 95%+ to get into the best known course or course of one's interest. Getting 95%+ in 12 th is obviously not a child’s play.Every student can’t have same level of intelligence or grasping power. In the end students with average%or I should say below average stands nowhere, they end up taking admissions in correspondence or sometimes students gets so depressed that they end up takin...

The "Enigma" that is... 'God'

God- a nice topic of debate. What is it to be an infinite conundrum, an eternal mystery... What is the relevance of God today? Are we being selfish? Man is born to sin. So, we have to be selfish, right? Or is it just another smart-ass argument? Little Srijith was crying- inconsolably. He had received a hiding from his mother for tasting the laddoos before they could be offered for the pooja. Hearing his sobs, his grandmother hobbled up to him and offered him another piece of laddoo. He gave it a glance, took it and flung it out... Srijith's grandmother would feed him stories of God's kindness. While his mother- a disciplinarian and a devout lady- would often warn him against God's hot displeasure. But she also taught him to have faith in the same God. Srijith was no Socrates. But, hearing so many things about this 'God' confused him to no end. Even the other day, when he had fallen off a mango tree while trying to pick fruit, his mother admonished him saying, "...

A nice article on Kashmir's options in TOI

I'm taking the privilege to share this shared post from one of my friends blog (with his due permission of course!). This article, she told, was published in the Times Of India in one of the Sunday editions of August 2008 during the Jammu & Kashmir disharmony period (and yes, no points for guessing that it was the matter which was fueled deliberately by pro Pakistan separatists only). My friend said she liked the Author's view point and concept of the situation and thats why she shared it on her blog. And, reading it there, I also felt the same.... thats why I'm sharing this with all of you here thinking that it will be a better read for all those who didn't read it there in the TOI copy. All credits and credentials goes to the author as well as the newspaper. I'm just copy-pasting the post with due permission. Here it follows.... About the end of Wuthering Heights.

I know how Ielfphil feels about the end of Wuthering Heights. You rush home clutching the book. You throw yourself into a cozy chair and gobble down your book as fast as you can. In two to four hours or so, all the intrigue is over. No more suspense, no more anticipation. Only a curious sense of depression. You want to scream at the cosmos, 'what do you mean that's it? It's all over?!' And if the author has had the audacity to Die , like dumb Emily Bronte (very thoughtless and uncivilised of her I always thought!) what is the poor reader to do? Do I know the feeling?! When I was 12 (in 1976), I finished the last of the Little Women books, Jo's Boys . That was Lousia May Alcott's final chapter in the March family. As she said, 'Let the curtain close.' That was it. All these people that I knew better than I knew my own neighbors, gone. Done. Like they had never existed. It was horrible; like mass genocide. I was depressed for days. Nothing ma...

Are we prejudiced?

I have something to confess. I went to watch Asia Cup match last year here where this incident took place. It was at the stadium; entry is free for all. I guess its a move to popularise the sport, and I could see that for every match, the stadium was jam-packed. This one was during the finals - India vs Korea. Me, Paro and her 2 friends went to see the match. We sat on those cement benches. We'd taken the Indian flag along with us and also made some pickets to encourage our team. Also, this was sometime after the bomb blasts at Hyderabad. So, there we are enjoying the match and having a good time. Suddenly, I hear cries of "Allah hu Akbar"! A bunch of guys sitting behind us were shouting it repeatedly. At once, (and I'm ashamed of myself) alarm bells rang in my head! OM MY GOD! What if they want to blow up this place?! What if ... ? Unthinkable questions came into my mind and I couldn't concentrate on cheering our team. The other girls were busy doing it, but my h...
